Yesterday our UP class had some special visitors when our younger learners joined us for a shared learning experience!
We began by exploring mathematical dispositions together, discussing what they look like across JP, MP and UP classes.
Students then worked in pairs on an EstiMystery challenge, estimating how many blocks were in a vase. With each new clue, they had to be flexible and adaptable, adjusting their estimates, reasoning with their partners, and justifying their thinking to others.
Afterwards, our focus shifted to the idea of mistakes in learning. We talked about the difference between learning mode and performance mode, and how mistakes in learning mode actually help us grow. Together, we reflected on what happens when we go into a challenge expecting it to be easy, and how mistakes can feel harder in that mindset.
Our UP students helped guide the younger learners to see the importance of planning ahead for possible mistakes, and developing strategies to STAY in learning mode. This way, no matter the challenge, we can keep learning, improving and thriving—rather than giving up if things aren’t easy right away.
A wonderful session of teamwork, problem-solving, and growing resilience across our classes!
